Andrew Barr passes down field as Eli Arwood blocks in a recent game. The passing attack will
likely be key if the Wildcats beat the Chargers.

With just three games left on the
season, there is much to be decided in regards to playoff pairings.
The Sweetwater Wildcats will have a playoff hungry squad on their
hands Friday, when the McMinn Central Chargers come to town.
The Chargers at 3-5, 1-2 come into
play needing a win to move back to .500 in the district standings. A
win for Central would keep them in control of their playoff destiny,
a loss would set them back quite a bit. That is exactly what the
Wildcats aim to do.
Sweetwater will have the difficult
task, as most teams have had, of stopping Denzell Boyd. Sequoyah
struggled in shutting him down, and the Wildcats might as well. What
Sweetwater needs to do is control the ball. Opposing teams have had
trouble running against linebacker Wyatt Barnett, and the Charger
front seven. If Jordan McGaughey and Eli Arwood can find success then
this game should go to the Wildcats.
The problem is, as I said, most teams
have struggled on the ground against Central. The passing game might
need to take a leading role in this game. Central usually throws 8 or
9 in the box leaving single coverage on the outside. Look for Nick
Wicker and Zack Neil to have huge contributions in this one. Andrew
Barr will love the man to man coverage as well. Sequoyah was able to
light the Chargers up through the air, and for Sweetwater to win, they'll need to follow the same game plan.
This game could easily become a track
meet. Speed kills and that's certainly something the Chargers have
alot of. With just three games left in 2012, each one matters. There
are no days off when you get to this part of the schedule, at least
not in 5-AA.
A slow, ground and
pound game is what the Wildcats want in this matchup. By limiting the
possesions, and not turning the ball over, Sweetwater can handle any
team. McMinn Central isn't the most disciplined team around, but
when you face a team that has not made the playoffs in some time, and
are inching closer to that goal, anything is possible.
