Jessica Kennedy, convicted in August of facilitation of murder
in the July 17, 2010, murder of Jim Miller, was sentenced to 22 years in jail just moments
ago. She received 22 years on the facilitation of murder conviction and also received a five-year
jail term for a facilitation of robbery conviction along with 11/29 on two other charges in
the notorious case.
The jail terms will run concurrently, thus falling short of the
maximum sentence the Miller family wanted, resulting in a 22-year jail sentence in effect.
Kennedy could have spent 31 years in jail on the facilitation of murder and robbery charges alone
had the judge gone for the maximum jail terms and ran them one after the other.
Her
lawyers have already said they will ask for a new trial for Kennedy, who will be 29 years old in
December.
The Miller family said after the sentencing hearing there will be no closure
until other people who they think played a role in Miller's murder are brought to justice.
See more on this sentencing in the Sunday paper.
