TELLICO PLAINS-It was Homecoming
night at Tellico Friday and the Bears got their first win of the season by defeating the Harriman
Blue Devils, 41-24. The Bears got on the board first, in their
opening drive of the game with an Adam Reece touchdown run. Tellico led 7-0 early in the first
quarter. On the very next possession, the Bears defense stood strong and forced Harriman to a
three and out. A couple possessions later, Harriman was forced to punt once again. The Bears' Zach Strickland took the punt to the house for a touchdown.
The extra point was good and Tellico took a 14-0 lead to the second quarter. Harriman took their
first possession of the second quarter and marched down the field for a score making the game 14-6
early in the second. The next possession for Tellico ended with another Reece toucdown. The Bears
led 20-6 with 4:30 left in the second quarter. Harriman then
took the kickoff and returned it to deep into Tellico territory. The Bears defense once again
stood strong forcing the Blue Devils to turn the the ball over on downs. At the half the score was
20-6 Bears. Harriman received the second half kickoff and once
again were forced to punt the ball back to Tellico. Adam Reece took the punt deep into Harriman
territory and on the very next play Devin Collier scored on a 16-yard touchdown run. The Bears converted a two-point conversion and stretched their lead to
28-6 with 9:12 to go in the third. Harriman would make it 28-12 before the fourth. With 2:03 left
in the third quarter, Tellico's Zach Strickland added another touchdown for the Bears with a
32-yard score and pushed the Bears lead to 34-12. Bryce Carter's extra point made it 35-12.
Harriman would get two late touchdowns from senior wide receiver
Chris Works to push the score to 35-24, but with 5:42 to go in the game Tellico's Robert Vandervort
recovered a muffed punt by Harriman. Reece punched into the paint with 2:29 left in the game and
sealed the deal for the Bears, 41-24. The Bears will have an off
week next week and will take on the Midway Green Waves in two weeks.
