TELLICO PLAINS-A Monroe County Sheriff's deputy was injured Friday when a suspect allegedly threw a caustic substance on his face.

Monroe County Sheriff's Detective Doug Brannon said officers were at a house on Mecca Pike outside of Tellico Plains looking for a wanted suspect when the incident occurred.

Deputy Josh Woods said he and others were attempting to serve an arrest warrant on Greg Cathey, 28, Pond Ridge Road, Tellico Plains, when Cathey took off running toward the woods. As he was fleeing, he threw a container at Woods and the liquid in it splashed out and hit Woods in the face.
