MADISONVILLE-It is a case that has
baffled many since the spring of 2006, and last week investigators
were sent back to the drawing board after a judge threw out the
indictment against the murder suspect.
John Edward Dawson had been indicted
for the murder of Troy Green in January 2010 (Green was killed in
April 2006), but soon after bizarre stories began to circulate of
Monroe County Sheriff's Detectives Pat Henry and Doug Brannon
concocting a scheme to get Dawson to confess using another inmate and
the detectives posing as a lawyer and a man with mob connections.
Henry invoked his Fifth Amendment
rights against self-incrimination during the hearing and Brannon said
he didn't tell Dawson to ignore his court appointed attorney and
didn't know anything about the other accusations.
It was the testimony of Monty Cox, who
said he was persuaded by law enforcement to lie about where he
purchased guns, that turned the case upside down again. See full story in the Wednesday, July 25, edition of The Advocate & Democrat.
