MADISONVILLE-A man who burned down a house after robbing it in January had all of his 13-year combined sentence suspended.

But he has to pay the homeowner $43,500 for the damage he caused.

Grant George Briggs, 36, Highway 39 West, Athens, pleaded guilty in Monroe County Criminal Court to charges of Arson, aggravated burglary and theft less than $500.

Monroe County Sheriff's Detective Conway Mason worked the case and said Briggs entered the home owned by Jose Jimenez and rented by Tammy Aaron on Jan. 12.
