Town budgets looking healthier

It's the time of year when small town officials began to wring their hands as the deadline for a final budget approaches.

But for at least two Monroe County towns, this year might not be as trying as past budget workings.

Vonore, which passed the first reading of approving the 2012-2013 fiscal budget last week, has estimated revenues for the next 12 months at $1,564,520,which matches their proposed budget for that same 12 months.

But the best news for the lakeside town is that it will start the year with nearly $84,000 more than it needs.

Town Recorder Rodney Tallent said this is mainly due to all departments, with the exception of the Fire Department, coming in under budget. Fire departments, while providing a vital service, do no generate income.
