MADISONVILLE-It's back to square one
for the Monroe County Jail Committee when it comes to finding land
for a new jail.
During the monthly Jail Committee
meeting Thursday night, the members voted unanimously to drop what
had been the first option, the "Aunt Reba Hicks" property at the
intersection of New Highway 68/Englewood Road (Old Highway 411), from
consideration.
The committee was unanimous in its
decision and then decided to have County Mayor Tim Yates bring back
more options at the July meeting.
The committee, which is made up of all
nine County Commission members, and various other county, judicial
and law enforcement officials, had decided earlier this spring to
focus on the Hicks property for a new jail site. See full story in the Sunday, June 17, edition of The Advocate & Democrat.
