A Madisonville man has been arrested on 23 different burglary/theft charges dating back to August.

Monroe County Sheriff's Detective Travis Jones arrested James David Huffstetler, 29, Community Drive, after an investigation showed Huffstetler was the main suspect in burglaries that covered all four municipalities and the county.

Huffstetler was arrested at his home on Dec. 23 where he briefly hid out before being arrested and admitting his role in the burglaries.

The earliest warrant on Huffstetler is for Aug. 3 when he allegedly broke into a home on Hew Highway 68 in Madisonville and took jewelry, paper and firearms belonging to Tony Martin.

On Aug. 4, the suspect allegedly broke into a home on Niles Ferry Road and took jewelry belonging to John Wiggins. On that same date he broke into a home on Highway 72 East in Vonore belonging to Scott Moser, but Jones said Huffstetler tripped the burglar alarm and fled without taking anything.

Jones said on Aug. 5, Huffstetler broke into a home on New Highway 68 in Tellico Plains and took jewelry belonging to Cynthia Russell. A little more than a week later, on Aug. 13, he broke into a home on Highway 411 in Vonore and took a jewelry box containing paper and costume jewelry belonging to Mildred Cooper, according to investigators.

It was another month before Huffstetler allegedly plied his trade again as Jones next warrant has Huffstetler breaking into a home on New Providence Road outside of Tellico and taking a muzzle loader and shotgun barrel belonging to Homer Underwood.

Then another month passed as on Oct. 12, Jones said Huffstetler broke into a home on Laurel Creek Road and took muzzleloaders, rifles, shotguns and knives belonging to Eric Harrod.
