A man who allegedly shot his brother during an argument over a woman last week has had his case waived to the grand jury.
Joshua Caleb Martin, 27, McJunkin Road, Tellico Plains, was arrested last week after he allegedly shot his brother, Steven Martin, with a high-powered rifle. He was in Monroe County General Sessions Court Tuesday where he waived his charge of attempted first-degree murder onto the Monroe County grand jury.
While he was in court, Martin pleaded guilty to four counts of violation of probation, for which he received six months.
Monroe County Sheriff's Detective Mike Morgan said Joshua Martin admitted shooting his brother around noon, but said Steven Martin had pulled a knife on him first.
Joshua Martin told Morgan he and his brother were fighting over a woman when his brother pulled the knife, but instead of attempting to use the knife, he walked out of the house on Old Mill Road, Morgan said Joshua Martin still grabbed a gun and shot him. Morgan described the gun as being a 30-30 rifle. Steven Martin was hit in the knee.
Steven Martin managed to get away from the house and make his way to a gas station nearby. From there 911 was called and he taken to UT Medical Center by Lifestar. Morgan said officers searched the area and Steven Martin, but couldn't find a knife.
Joshua Martin has been given a bond of $200,000 in the attempted first-degree murder charge. If indicted by the grand jury, he is scheduled to appear in Monroe County Criminal Court March 22.
