A Knoxville man received eight years and a $5,000 fine after he pleaded guilty in Monroe County Criminal Court to selling drugs near a Vonore school.
Jerry D. Waterson, 25, Sykvan Road, Knoxville, was arrested last July after he sold Ecstasy pills to a police informant.
At the time of the arrest, former Vonore Officer Robby Lovingood said the informant was given $380 in marked bills and equipped with electronic recording equipment to take to the alleged drug buy.
The informant met with Waterson and James O. Summerour, 21, Tynemouth, Knoxville, at Derby Downs, which is within 1,000 feet of Vonore Elementary School.
The informant then bought 28 Ecstasy pills from the men for $340 and the duo were arrested shortly thereafter.
Both men are charged with sale and delivery of a schedule I narcotic. Summerour is scheduled to be in court in February. Waterson must serve at least 30 percent of his sentence, but the court ruled he could apply for community corrections (probation).
