The USDA Forest Service officials of the Cherokee National Forest say the Tellico River Cleanup is set for Saturday, March 13. Registration will begin at 8 a.m., at the Tellico Ranger Station.
Last year's clean-up included more than 100 participants and nearly one ton of trash was collected along the Tellico River, North River and Citico Creek. Forest Service representative, Mary Jane Burnette said, "Everyone is encouraged to wear long-sleeved shirts, sturdy shoes or boots and gloves. Bring a lunch and plenty of drinking water.
Garbage bags will be provided as well as the garbage pickup. T-shirts will be provided for the first 75 volunteers. Sizes are limited, so you may want to arrive early to make sure you get your size shirt. This is always a fun and rewarding event."
This event is being sponsored by the Forest Service, the Tennessee Valley Authority, Trout Unlimited, Chattanooga Trout Association, Keep Monroe Beautiful, Chota Canoe Club, Atlanta Whitewater Association and the Tellico Motorcycle Outfitters.
For information, call Mary Jane Burnette at (423) 253-8413.
