Man confesses to five burglaries

A Sweetwater man was arrested over the weekend after he allegedly went on a burglary spree that lasted from before Christmas until Jan. 15. Monroe County Sheriff's Detective Mike Morgan said Gary Hill, 19, Frontier Road, allegedly stole a horse from Karen Raby. Morgan said Hill confessed to the crime and said he had stolen the horse so he could give it to his mother for Christmas.
Hill also confessed to burglarizing Fairview Baptist Church on Key Kile Road on Jan. 6. Morgan said Hill opened and damaged the front door of the church with a tire iron. He then took two televisions, three guitars and an amplifier.
On Jan. 14, Hill allegedly entered a barn on Guffy Road and stole a green Yamaha/ Grizzly four-wheeler belonging to Edgar Graves. Morgan said Hill confessed to this crime also. On Jan. 15 Hill stole a dog box from Ephraim Berrong's property with "opossum hunter" printed on the side. Hill confessed to this crime also.
And also on Jan. 15, Hill allegedly returned to Guffy Road and stole a Polaris Magnum 500 four-wheeler from John Thompson, another crime Morgan said Hill confessed to. Hill is charged with burglary, two counts of theft over $1,000 and two counts of theft over $500.
