On Jan. 13, Madisonville Police arrested Christopher J. Broome, 33, and Kathy L. Brown, 39, both of Highway 411, Madisonville, on child neglect charges after a 9-1-1 call was made regarding Broome's 4-year-old son.
According to police, the young boy complained of a neck pain and when officers arrived, the child was transported to the Sweetwater Hospital emergency room for treatment. Upon further investigation, officers determined that both Broome and Brown had been smoking methamphetamines with four children present in the room.
This incident took place at the Graham Rentals where both Broome and Brown reside. In addition to being charged with child neglect, Broome has been charged with two counts of assault on an officer, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct. The charges arose after Broome was taken to the Madisonville Police Department for further investigation. While there, Broome allegedly became belligerent and demanded the police take him to jail. When Officer Craig Summey tried to place the suspect under arrest for disorderly conduct, Broome kicked the officer then pulled away.
Officers said after a brief struggle between Police Commissioner Bill Spradlin, Sgt. Bill Bivens, Summey and Broome, the suspect was placed into custody and taken to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office.
Brown failed drug screening and was charged with child neglect. The Department of Children's Services took custody of the four children, according to police.
