Fort Loudoun archeology topic of Jan. 23 program

The Winter Lecture Series at Fort Loudoun State Historic Area continues on Saturday Jan. 23, at 2 p.m. Dr. Carl Kuttruff will present a program titled "Archeology of Fort Loudoun." Dr. Kuttruff will begin with a summary on 18th century British construction and the occupation of Fort Loudoun and will provide information on the excavations performed at Fort Loudoun prior to the flooding of the Little Tennessee River Valley.
Dr. Carl Kuttruff holds a B.A. degree from Louisiana State University in Geography and Anthropology, and M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from Southern Illinois University in Anthropology. Dr. Kuttruff has 45 years of field and other related archaeological research. He directed the Fort Loudoun excavations in 1975-1976. He is currently Adjunct Assistant Professor at Louisiana State University, and carries out archaeological excavations for several private contracting firms.
This is the third in a series of speakers that will be presented from January through the end of February. Other program titles include "Cherokee Archeology of the Little Tennessee Valley," "Becoming the Volunteer State: Tennessee and the War of 1812" "TVA and the Tellico Dam" and "The Battle of Kings Mountain."
