The last time the Sweetwater Lady Wildcats and Sequatchie County Lady Indians met, in the Region 3-AA semi-finals in 2008, the Lady Indians ran out to a big lead, Sweetwater clawed back, and Sequatchie ended the game with a strong fourth quarter.
And though the stakes weren't as high, Tuesday's game between the teams in a Hall of Fame contest at Walker Valley played out the same way as the Lady Indians won 67-38. Sequatchie owned the fourth quarter, outscoring a young Lady Cats team 31-10 in the final frame to blow open the game.
The Lady Indians' full-court press caused Sweetwater - which started one senior, three sophomores, and a freshman - problems early as Sequatchie jumped out to a 17-6 lead after one quarter. Sweetwater settled down and found some success on the offensive end in the second quarter, but the Lady Indians were able to increase their lead by halftime to 13 points and led 28-15. However, Sweetwater controlled the third quarter and two separate runs whittled the Sequatchie lead to just six points, but Sequatchie scored the final two points of the third quarter and foreshadowed a big final quarter.
Allie Bowden led Sweetwater with 13 points while Bridgette Latham scored 12. Shea Ervin scored seven for the Lady Cats.
