A Madisonville woman was taken to Sweetwater Hospital Monday afternoon after she was allegedly attacked by her 17-year-old son.

Monroe County Sheriff's Office deputies were sent to a home on Cherokee Circle near the Monroe County Airport and found the adult female victim to have stab wounds to the chest and arm and she had been forced to ingest toxic substances and prescription medication.

The victim was transported to the hospital and detectives detained and interviewed the victim's son. The juvenile was subsequently charged with attempted first-degree murder and is being held at the Blount County Detention Center pending further hearing.

Detective Travis Jones said he couldn't release very much information as the case involved a juvenile, but said although the juvenile acted alone, authorities are still looking to interview other people in connection with the case.

The suspect is scheduled to appear in Monroe County Juvenile Court Thursday.
