Drunk driving arrests and burglary charges topped the weekend crime reports for local police agencies.
Monroe County Sheriff's Office Capt. Steve Ogle charged Thomas Smith, 40, Rock Hill Road, Tellico Plains, with DUI (second offense), driving on a revoked (second offense) and leaving the scene of an accident.
Ogle responded to an accident on Gamble Gap road late Sunday night/early Monday morning. Ogle's warrants said he saw a Chevrolet Blazer in a creek along the roadway. The vehicle was registered to Smith.
Ogle said he talked to two people who were still at the scene of the wreck and was able to determine Smith was the driver. Ogle said Smith had left the scene and walked a short distance to his home.
Ogle said when he found Smith, the suspect denied that he was the driver of the wrecked SUV. However, Ogle's warrants said Smith was unsteady on his feet, had blood-shot eyes and smelled strongly of alcohol. The officer also said he saw a pair of wet blue jeans laying on the floor.
Ogle said he recovered four cans of beer and a half-empty, half-pint bottle of whiskey in the wrecked vehicle.
On Sunday, Madisonville Police Officer Chris Williams charged Catherine Armstrong, King Road, Madisonville, with DUI and resisting arrest.
Williams said he stopped Armstrong's car on Highway 411 while investigating a domestic assault.
The officer said Armstrong smelled of alcohol and stated she had been drinking vodka.
According to warrants, Armstrong failed field sobriety tests but refused further alcohol testing. Williams said Armstrong became combative during her arrest and cursed officers.
On Saturday, Monroe County Sheriff's Office Deputy James Wall charged William Raynaud West, Beth Street, Madisonville, with DUI.
Wall investigated West's car wreck on Old Athens Road. According to Wall, West smelled of alcohol and performed poorly on field sobriety tests. Wall said West's blood-alcohol content (BAC) test results showed the driver had a BAC of 0.16.
On Friday, Madisonville Police Officer Kevin Standridge charged Josh Andrew Shell, 20, Patterson Street, Madisonville with aggravated burglary.
Standridge said while investigating a Nov. 3 burglary, Shell admitted he stopped at Old Saybrook Apartments to see a girl that he knew. According to Standridge's warrant, Shell said he entered her apartment through an unlocked door and went up to her bedroom. He sat on the bed until he heard someone coming and then tried to hide in the closet.
The girl had been asleep on her living room couch during the incident, Standridge said.
On Saturday, Sweetwater Police Officer Kenny Wilkins charged Joseph Ray Remilong, 29, Madisonville, with criminal trespassing after receiving a call about an unwanted person at Sweetwater Hospital.
Wilkins said the suspect told him he did not need medical attention and stopped answering questions.
Wilkins said Capt. Gary Newman had to use a stun gun on the suspect to get him into custody. After his arrest, Remilong then said he needed to go to the hospital to be treated for the flu. The suspect was quickly seen at the hospital, then released, Wilkins said.
