The Madisonville Lady Eagles had a little trouble shaking off the rust early in their season opener on Monday night against the Chilhowee Lady Bobcats, but by the second quarter there was no stopping them.
The Lady Eagles rolled past the Lady Bobcats 42-20.

Madisonville was out of sync in the first quarter, scoring just six points in the frame.
However, a stingy defense kept the Lady Bobcats off the board until hitting three free throws in the final 16 seconds of the first.
Buckets by Hunter Simpson, Chancy Welshan, and Laura Whited kept the Lady Eagles ahead 6-3 after one quarter.

Madisonville started to find a rhythm in the second quarter, although most of their scoring was done from the free-throw stripe.
The Lady Eagles were 7 of 16 from there in the quarter and, combined with buckets by Whited and Crysta Captain, carried a 17-5 advantage into halftime as their defense allowed just two points in the quarter.
Madisonville was able to carry that momentum into the second half, thanks in part to having Simpson back on the court.

Simpson missed a majority of the first half after getting into early foul trouble but more than made up for it to start the second.
Simpson scored the first eight points of the third quarter for Madisonville and doing it off steals, drives, and jumpers.
A 3-pointer by Chilhowee's Makayla Miracle ended that streak, but Madisonville's Halea Langerfelt answered with a three of her own to spark a 9-2 run to end the quarter, capped by another Simpson bucket.

The final quarter was reserved mostly for younger players with the Lady Eagles' Savanna Atkins taking advantage of the playing time.
Atkins scored six of Madisonville's eight points, with the other two coming from Welshan.
The Lady Bobcats had their best quarter offensively but it wasn't enough as Madisonville cruised to the victory.

Simpson led the Lady Eagles with 12 points while Whited finished with eight.points and six rebounds.
Emily Coburn pulled down five rebounds and scored two points.
