Commodities distribution set for Nov. 5

Douglas Cherokee Economic Authority, Monroe County Neighborhood Center will distribute USDA Commodities Thursday, Nov. 5, at 884 Englewood Road, Madisonville, beside the Madisonville Public Library.

Commodities ID cards will not be required at the distribution site, but one of the following items must • If you receive food stamps, you may bring your EBT card or your notice of approval from the DHS Office for food stamps.
• If you receive AFDC or Families First, you may bring your notice of approval from the DHS Office.
• If you live in public housing, you may bring a rent receipt or a copy of your housing contract.
• If you applied for the low income heating assistance program, you may bring your approval letter.

If you do not receive any of the above listed programs, you must bring proof of total household income, check stubs from employment or copies of monthly income from Social Security, SSI, VA, or any type of retirement.

A permission slip will be required each time you pick up commodities for anyone other than yourself. You may pick up the permission slips in advance at the Neighborhood Center Office.
The Monroe County Health Council will sponsor a health fair at the Commodity distribution with health-related booths for the commodity participants to visit. Coats for the cold will also be distributed during this event.

For information about the USDA Commodity Program, call 442-3983; or 442-3769. The program is funded under agreement with the Department of Agriculture. No one shall be excluded from participation in or denied benefits based on the grounds of handicap and/or disability, age, race, color, religion, sex or national origin.

As part of the commodity distribution, there will be a health fair with several agencies in the county on hand to provide free health screenings.
Please bring extra grocery bags.
