Sheriff Bill Bivens announced over the weekend he will seek re-election in the 2010 sheriff's race. In a press release, the committee to re-elect Bivens cited the sheriff's work in fighting meth, improving technology at the Sheriff's Office, obtaining grants for equipment and training, starting a rehabilitation program at the jail, and adding a drug and criminal interdiction officer to the staff.
Bivens is the first to formally announce his candidacy for the 2010 county elections, which will include the county mayor, sheriff, county commissioners, and all elected county positions. The Republican and Democrat primaries will be held on May 4, with the county general election on Aug. 5. The first date to pick up petitions for the primaries will be Nov. 20. The deadline for turning in qualifying petitions will be Feb. 18, 2010.
