The National Alliance on Mental Illness of Monroe County NAMI-MC is participating in the NAMI effort to educate family members and friends of those over 18 years of age who have been diagnosed with some form of brain disorders. The "With Hope in Mind Course" will be held Oct. 31, Nov. 7, 14, and 21. These four consecutive Saturday workshops will be held from 8 a.m.-noon at the First United Methodist Church in Madisonville, 143 College St. Use the lower level parking lot on Tellico Street and that entrance to the building.
The course is designed to help families learn and understand the various brain disorders, treatments, coping, communication and problem management skills. This knowledge should empower individuals to act to eliminate the stigma and advocate for their family member. You are not alone. One in four families has someone in their immediate family that has a serious mental illness.
The course is free and materials will be provided to you. Refreshments will be served and child care will be provided to those requesting it when reserving space in the class. A release form will need to be signed. To register for the classes or for further information, call (423) 420-9866. Class size is limited, so please call as soon as possible.
NAMI-MC holds monthly meetings the second Monday of each month at 7 p.m. in the First United Methodist Church, Madisonville. You are invited to join us. This is a combined business and support group meeting for this non-profit all volunteer organization. For information on BRIDGES classes and support groups for those with diagnosed brain disorders, call (423) 420-2400.
