Team Lexi, a local fund raising group that supports families of children with cancer, hosted a “Princess Party” recently. The parties, where local women come dressed as various princesses throughout history, support little girls with cancer. Patty Montooh, the group’s Princess Pocahontas, decided to donate a portion of her hair to the Locks of Love organization. Locks of Love will turn Montooth’s hair into a wig for a child that is suffering long-term hair loss due to medical reasons. Montooth donated her hair in memory of Emily Barger and Maddie Harrill both young girls who recently died of rhabdomy sarcoma.
Montooth, an employee at the Sweetwater Hospital, also recently finished a half marathon Leukemia Foundation fund raising run. The group also plans to host a “Superhero Carnival” for male children. Misty Stamey, the group’s founder, noted that the amount of volunteers to the group has continued to grow to the point where they have been donated a building in Madisonville which they will renovate to serve as an office. “It was getting pretty crowded holding the meetings at my house,” said Stamey. Since the group’s founding in 2004, Team Lexi has raised nearly $60,000 to support local families and cancer organizations.
