Vonore held its monthly town meeting on Tuesday.
Mayor Fred Tallent opened up the meeting by warning the
citizens of Vonore that school had started, and that everyone needed to slow
down and drive carefully especially around the school and residential
areas. He also reported that work
was continuing on the local veterans memorial, but that people needed to submit
names, branch of service, and the conflict the person served in to city.
Police Chief John Hines reported that the Vonore Police
Department had been operating smoothly for the past four weeks, and that they
are currently working on solving several thefts, including one from more than a
year ago in which new evidence had become available.
Fire Department Chief Steve Wheeler discussed the grant the
city Fire Department had received, and reported that two firefighters in the
department had been certified as Level II Firefighters. He also brought the Board of Aldermen
up to date on the amount of medically trained personnel in the department.
The last item of the evening was the announcement that
Robert Young had been hired by the city in the position of a certified
collections operator.
