The awards keep piling up for rising Sweetwater senior Kayla Kerns.
She was recently named to the Tennessee Sports Writers Association Class 2A All-State team.
Kerns adds this accomplishment to her list for the year, which includes being selected as the District 5-AA Player of the Year and the Monroe County Player of the Year.
As a junior, Kerns was instrumental in leading the Lady Wildcats to a perfect district record in the regular season and District 5-AA tournament championship.
Kerns pitched every inning of the district tournament – 28 total – and allowed only two runs on 12 hits while striking out 42 batters.
That includes a no-hitter in the opening round of the tournament.
Kerns suffered only a handful of losses during the season and most all of them came against 3A competition.
Kerns is the only player from District 5-AA to be named to the team.
Only four players from southeast Tennessee were named all-state in AA, including Laura Curtis, whose Chattanooga Christian team eliminated Sweetwater from the region tournament.
