The 11th Annual Smoky Mountain Trout Tournament will be held Sept. 26 and 27. Over 5,000 trout are stocked in the nearly 20 miles of streams. Prizes range from hotel accommodations, restaurant gift certificates, amusement passes, trophies, fishing equipment, and cash. The entry fee is $40. Winners are determined by total weight of a five-fish-limit per day in four divisions: local youth and adult, tourist youth and adult. Each division has first, second, and third place and prizes are awarded for the largest and smallest fish. Cleveland State Baseball Showcase Cleveland State will host a professional and college scout showcase in which high school aged players will be able to showcase their talent in front of professional and college scouts. Each player will be able to run the 60-yard dash, work defensively from their position, take live batting practice on the field, and pitchers will be able to work game-type settings. The showcase will be Oct. 3 at 10 a.m. with registration beginning at 9:30 a.m. All participants must be pre-registered by Sept. 25. The showcase will be held at the Cleveland State Baseball Field and the cost is $75, which includes lunch. Monroe County Little League Meeting The Monroe County Little League extends an invitation to the public to attend an informative baseball meeting. The meeting will be held in the cafeteria at Hiwassee College on Sept. 18 at 7 p.m. This meeting will be used as a discussion for the 2010 baseball season and is extremely important. All parents, players, coaches, umpires, and supporters from Madisonville, Sweetwater, Tellico Plains, and Vonore are urged to attend. Joey Hunt Fishing Tournament The Joey Hunt Memorial Bass Club (JHMBC) Tournament is held every Thursday evening on Watts Bar Lake. Blast off and weigh-in is out of Whaley's Boat Ramp on Hwy 72, approximately two miles west of I -75. Although individuals may fish alone, this is a two-person team event with an entry fee of $30 per boat, which includes a $5 big fish pot (paid weekly) and a $5 Classic Fee. A $10 membership fee is required on an angler's first night of fishing. The club's finale will be the JHMBC Classic on September 19. One hundred percent of all membership fees are paid out at the annual Classic Event. In addition, Classic winners receive a plaque that bears the image of Sgt. Hunt to keep in their possession until the following year's event is held. All amateur fishermen are welcome to participate.
