One of Monroe County's most popular summer camps swings into action next week as the Aaron Green Basketball Camp takes center stage at Hiwassee College.
Camp director Aaron Green, a former standout at Sweetwater and the University of Tennessee, recently finished his second season as a graduate assistant at Tennessee under head coach Bruce Pearl.

This year's camp is scheduled for July 6-9 from 9 a.m.-noon each day and is open to boys and girls in grades one through eight.
The camp offers a variety of useful tools for campers.
Each camper will have their shot evaluated by using a video tape analysis.

Defensive techniques and strategies will be taught and plenty of time is spent on the fundamentals of basketball and shooting drills.
A variety of competitions are also implemented into the camp.
There are competitions for several traditional basketball games such as Gotcha, Hot Shot, and a free throw contest.

Each of these contests are tracked and awards for the top performers are awarded at the conclusion of the camp.
Campers will also have the opportunity to put their newly-learned skills into use with 5-on-5 league games played against campers of their own age and ability levels.
With Green's connection to the UT basketball team, there is also the possibility of a current UT player visiting the camp as a guest speaker.

The camp cost is $75 if pre-registered and $85 at the door. To find out how to pre-register or for more information, call 423-595-1829.
