The annual Aaron Green Basketball Camp will be held July 6-9 from 9 a.m.-noon at Hiwassee College. The camp is open to boys and girls in first-eight grade. Each camper will go through a number of different basketball drills, play five-on-five games, and participate in various competitions throughout the week. Each camper will be grouped with players of their own age and ability. Every participant will also receive a cap t-shirt and basketball. The camp cost is $75 if pre-registered and $85 at the door. The camp is run by Aaron Green, who recently finished two years as a graduate assistant coach at the University of Tennessee. For more information, contact Green at 423-595-1829. Vonore Youth Sports Meetings There will be a meeting for members of Vonore Youth Sports at Vonore Elementary School on July 26 at 2 p.m. This is the annual meeting and election of the officers will take place. Both of these meetings are extremely important and members are urged to attend to exercise their voting rights. Joey Hunt Fishing Tournament The Joey Hunt Memorial Bass Club (JHMBC) Tournament is held every Thursday evening on Watts Bar Lake. Blast off and weigh-in is out of Whaley's Boat Ramp on Hwy 72, approximately two miles west of I -75. Although individuals may fish alone, this is a two-person team event with an entry fee of $30 per boat, which includes a $5 big fish pot (paid weekly) and a $5 Classic Fee. A $10 membership fee is required on an angler's first night of fishing. The club's finale will be the JHMBC Classic on September 19. One hundred percent of all membership fees are paid out at the annual Classic Event. In addition, Classic winners receive a plaque that bears the image of Sgt. Hunt to keep in their possession until the following year's event is held. All amateur fishermen are welcome to participate. Tellico Youth Football The Tellico Plains Youth Football program extends an invitation to any player from Madisonville, Sweetwater, Tellico Plains, and Vonore to sign-up for its youth program. Tellico is a member of the SETAC Conference, which allows players to play their natural position instead of being limited to certain positions due to their weight. Stringers Needed Stringers are needed to help cover fall sports in Monroe County. Anyone interested in covering youth football, volleyball, or girls' soccer can contact sports editor Corbitt Hollingsworth by phone at 337-7101 or by e-mail at sportseditor@advocateanddemocrat.com. This includes submitting pictures and information from various games to help track of what is going on in Monroe County sports. We want to get the teams as much coverage as possible and help will be needed to do so. Tellico Plains Alumni Center When the Alumni Center is finished TPHS will have a place where all past alumni can relive their glory days and students of today can learn about Tellico High School history. There will also be a state of the art weight room where the present and future athletes can train to make their own history. Become an Alumni Booster member or make a donation.
