At first glance, the win-loss record for Monroe County baseball teams might not appear overly impressive.
However, when compared to the records over the past couple of seasons, one can see a steady increase in wins, especially when the strength of schedule is added in the mix.
This season marked continued improvement, even though Sequoyah was the only team that finished over .500.

Here now is a look back at the seasons of the three Monroe County teams and a look ahead to next season.

Sequoyah
Look back: The Chiefs continued their steady improvement with another good year.
Sequoyah took on all-comers as Class AAA teams were a constant on the schedule.
Sequoyah finished one game over .500 at 15-14, but seven losses came against those Class AAA teams.

Sophomore DeAndre Allen earned Player of the Year honors in the county.
Look ahead: New lights for the baseball field won't be the only changes at Sequoyah next season.
Several new faces will be seen in the field as Sequoyah will be hit harder than any other program in the county due to graduation.

Several quality players will return, with Allen leading the way.
Young players such as Randall Coley, Trey Dyer and Seth Debity have shown plenty of promise.
District 5-AA should be up for grabs and Sequoyah has a chance to contend for the title as long as the offense maintains the level it was at this year and the pitching remains solid.

Sweetwater
Look back: The Wildcats record stayed consistent when compared to the last couple of seasons, but head coach Justin Rutherford got his team pointed in the right direction towards the end of the season.

Heartbreak and errors were the constant this season as the Wildcats came up just short against several opponents, due mainly to those errors.
The Cats adjusted quickly to their third coach in three years.
Look ahead: A veteran group with plenty of talent (the Wildcats return all four of their All-County selections) will be back.

As long as the Wildcats don't see their fourth new coach in four years, this team has the capability of surprising a few teams.
Sweetwater will need to develop some more arms for pitching, but a lack of offense was a bigger issue this season.

As is the case with Sequoyah, the district race looks to be wide open and the Wildcats appear to have the team to compete.

Tellico Plains
Look back: The 2009 season wasn't exactly what coach Lance Hamilton had planned for his Bears, but the team wasn't as low as their record would indicate.
The Bears had teams like Polk County and Meigs County on the ropes late in games, but one bad inning always seemed to bite the Bears.

Inconsistency on the mound and hard times at the plate took Tellico out of many games.
Look ahead: While Hamilton didn't view the 2009 season as a throwaway season, he was excited about the possibility of the Bears competing in Class A next year.
However, things don't get much better for the Bears as they will compete in District 3-A against the likes of Harriman, Rockwood, and Knoxville Grace.

The Bears will also be in a region with Coalfield, which advanced to Spring Fling, and Wartburg, which made it to the sectional round.
Forrest Medina, Deion O'dell, Cody Atkins, and Preston Russell should give the Bears lineup some punch, but others will also need to step up to help the Bears improve their record.
