With six basketball teams and 11 spring sports teams, Monroe County has plenty of opportunities to see some exciting action this winter and spring.
Now that the high school sports have come to a close, it's time to take a look back at the top five most exciting, drama-filled games from January-May.
The list starts with the fifth most exciting game.

Tellico Plains-Meigs County boys' basketball, February 6

This game was tight throughout, with plenty of ups and downs for both teams. The Bears jumped out to a big lead early, but the Tigers never went away. An 11-point lead in the second quarter was trimmed to two by halftime.

But Tellico went back up by five points entering the fourth quarter, setting the stage for a wild finish.
Meigs led 54-51 with 34 seconds to play, but an Adam Chambers 3-pointer tied the game. Tyler Skidmore broke the Bears' hearts with a 3-pointer with just five seconds remaining, though. A Johnny Payne half-court shot at the buzzer fell a foot short and Meigs held on for the 56-54 win.

Sequoyah-Copper Basin girls' basketball, January 15

Allyson Mason had plenty of big moments as a member of the Lady Chiefs, but none bigger than her performance in the fourth quarter and overtime against the Lady Cougars.
Mason scored all seven points in the fourth quarter, two more in overtime, and grabbed three crucial rebounds as the Lady Chiefs topped Copper Basin 49-47 in overtime.
The Lady Chiefs pulled away twice, but the Lady Cougars came storming back each time.
Sequoyah had beaten Copper Basin by nine just 10 days earlier.

Sequoyah-Polk County softball, April 27

As a general rule, runs are usually hard to come by in fast-pitch softball.
But the Lady Chiefs and Lady Wildcats broke all the rules in a wild game in which the teams combined for 29 runs.
Down by six runs entering their final at-bat, the Lady Chiefs scored five runs, all of which came with two outs, but couldn't score the tying run as they fell 15-14.
The teams spent the afternoon matching each other run-for-run, but a single run in the fifth by Polk County went unanswered as the Lady Wildcats pulled out the win.

Sweetwater-Midway softball, March 18

This game was billed as a pitcher's duel and it more than lived up to that status.
Both teams featured All-State pitchers with Hannah Coyler in the circle for Midway and eventual Player of the Year Kayla Kerns in the circle for Sweetwater.
Coyler was perfect through seven innings before Allison Carroll reached on a bunt single.
Kerns worked her way through a couple of jams and kept the Lady Waves off the board all game long.
An international tiebreaker was put into play in the ninth, and a perfect bunt by Carroll plated the game's only run as Sweetwater won 1-0.
The two pitchers combined to give up only six hits while striking out 31 batters.

Sequoyah-Sweetwater boys' basketball,

January 29

Beating a rival is always something to remember, but doing it with a buzzer-beating, half-court shot is something that is never forgotten. Jethro Griffin forever left his mark on the rivalry between Sweetwater and Sequoyah with a last-gasp shot that gave the Chiefs a 62-60 win over the Wildcats. That feat capped a 17-point fourth quarter comeback by Sequoyah.
A turnover forced Sequoyah to foul Corey Billingsley, who was perfect at the free-throw line to that point, but Billingsley missed two free throws and that set up the Griffin dramatics.
That win gave Sequoyah a 2-1 edge in the season series against Sweetwater.
