There wasn’t a truer word spoken at the Sequoyah-Coalfield scrimmage on Tuesday than what came out of the mouth of a Coalfield player.

After the Chiefs gashed the Yellow Jackets for one of many big plays, the player returned to the huddle and yelled at his teammates, “Come on guys. They aren’t last year’s team.”

Last year, Coalfield played fairly even with Sequoyah in a scrimmage. 

This year, it wasn’t even close.

Sequoyah obviously has some talented players, but their attitude is what makes the difference. Last year, they played somewhat timid. 

This year, players are flying around making plays without thinking about them.

Don’t be surprised when this team is playing in November. And don’t be surprised at anything they accomplish this season.

While discussing a scoring drive against Loudon on Thursday, head coach Bill Satterfield said, “I bet there aren’t many people in Monroe County that even expected us to score against Loudon.”

If that’s true, coach, they haven’t seen the improvement your team has made in a year’s time.
