Savannah 11 Sweetwater 6

The Sweetwater All-Stars stay in the 11-12 year old DixieYouth Ozone State Tournament was a short one as the team was eliminated onSunday.

Sweetwater, which hosted the 12-team, double-eliminationtournament, got off to a rocky start with an 11-6 loss to Savannah in theopening game Saturday afternoon.

Nine of Savannah’s 11 runs came by way of walks or errors.

Dalton Lowe led the Sweetwater attack with a double andsingle in the loss.

 Sweetwater 14 Covington 3

Sweetwater regrouped from its loss in the opening game ofthe state tournament to thump Covington 14-3 in a losers’ bracket game.

Dylan Rollins and Lowe combined to toss a no-hitter in thewin.

The Sweetwater defense improved in the second game – playedalmost immediately after its first game ended – as the team committed only oneerror.

Sweetwater collected 12 hits in the game, five of which werefor extra bases.

Isaac Pina led Sweetwater with three singles.

 Coopertown 10 Sweetwater 3

Sweetwater’s tournament run ended with a 10-3 loss toCoopertown on Sunday afternoon.

A five-run sixth inning blew open an otherwise close gamethat sealed Sweetwater’s fate and eliminated the team from the tournament.

Rollins and Andrew Barr each collected two hits forSweetwater in the game.
