Special to The Advocate & Democrat

Mixed doubles leagues are well under way with matches being played on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings at 7 p.m. at the Chota courts.

Come on out and watch some exciting tennis as these leagues compete to advance to the next level.
Super senior leagues will begin forming in mid-July. Players over the age of 60 are eligible for supers and those over the age of 70 can play at the super, super level.  And, yes, our community has enough at these ages to field teams.

Other leagues forming later in the season will be Tri-Level and Combos. For those interested in participating, call Fred Bonney, local league coordinator at 458-2589.
There will be two TLTA Board of Director vacancies to be filled this year.  There are also several committee positions open in the association.  If you’re interested in volunteering in these capacities for our tennis association, please contact Kandie Shubeck at Shubeck@charter.net or Fred Bonney at fred-elaine@mindspring.com.

The TLTA Summer Social will be July 15, at the Kahite Clubhouse.  An evening of fun, music and good food is in store for all attending. For more information, contact Kandie Shubeck at 458-1945.
Also on the TLTA calendar is a new activity for our organization. On Sunday, September 14, Rally for the Cure will be held.  This is our first charity event and is being held to benefit the Susan B. Komen Breast Cancer Research Center. Plans continue to be made and more information will be announced soon. Even if you are not a tennis player, there will be activities in which you can participate.

The Sunday social for July will be at the Chota Courts on July 20 starting at 2 p.m.  All tennis players are encouraged to attend for mixed doubles, doubles, singles, for all ages and for all skill levels and TLTA membership is not required.  Light refreshments and drinks will be provided.

The junior tennis program in the area continues with their summer season well under way.  The first match for these very young players was on June 25 with Steekee from Loudon and Cross Creek from Sweetwater in competition. A novice tournament will be held for these players in Sweetwater on July 11-13.

Congratulations to Bill Garrett for his logo entry which was selected as the winner. You will be seeing the logo included on many TLTA communications.

B.J. Brinkley is doing a fantastic job as our Web site coordinator.  For association news, calendar activities, and some really neat pictures, go to our Web site at www.TLTA.USTA.com.
