Roy E. Barnett of Sweetwater, passed away Thursday, July 19, at the family home. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Sweetwater. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a retired owner and operator of television cable companies.

He was 70.

Preceded in death by: parents, Ed and Lucile Barnett; brothers-in-law, Clyde Farrell and Wendell Walker.

Survivors include: wife of 42 years-Madeline Barnett

Sons and daughter-in-law-David Merrell, all of Sweetwater; and Darrell and Karen Barnett of Tellico Plains;

Grandsons-Hunter Barnett and Dave Merrell and family;

Granddaughter-Nikki Barnett;

Great-granddaughters-Ivey and Gracie Merrell;

Sisters and brothers-in-law-Georgia Farrell of California; Betty and Austin McConkey of Madisonville; and Edna and Tom Sweat of Sweetwater;

Sisters-in-law and brother-in-law-Mary Frances and Harold Gudger and Maxine Walker, all of Tellico Plains;

Several nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.

The body is at Kyker Funeral Homes, Sweetwater, where the family will receive friends from 9-10 a.m., Saturday, July 21. Graveside and interment will follow in Center Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Tellico Plains. Rev. Don Rockholt will officiate. Kyker Funeral Homes, in charge of arrangements.
